Commerce
 

                    The Department of Commerce with B.Com Programme was started in the year 1969-70, with a sanctioned strength of 60. The M.Com programme was introduced in the year 1975-76 with the specification as the first Post Graduate Programme of our college with a sanctioned strength of 20. During 1986-1987 the present Commerce Block construction was completed and occupied. Our institution was approved as a co-educational institution in the year 1997-98. The curriculum of our programmes includes subjects related to business, accounts, commerce, Computer applications in Business, MS Office and practical exposure to computerized accounting packages. The department offers full-time and part-time research programme leading to M.Phil and Ph.D. in Commerce from 1975 onwards. The Department has produced 242 M.Phil and 65 Ph.D graduates so far.
All the faculties are qualified with doctoral degree in the field of commerce. In addition seven faculty members have also qualified with NET/SET. Our department maintains library with 352 books for both the staff and the students. The department has established a Knowledge Resource Centre with 220 Subject Books as well as Competitive Examination Books and E – Resource Centre with 3 computers along with Broadband connectivity for the benefit of our commerce students in view of golden jubilee celebrations.
The department received a sum of Rs.7,00,000 from UGC in the year 2008-09 to offer Career Oriented Certificate Course in Office Management through which a separate lab with 26 computers established. The course is being continued still. The department has produced meritorious alumni to the society positioning as Educationalist, Entrepreneurs, Chartered Accountants, Bank Administrators, Professors, Teachers, Consultants and Government administrators and employees.
 CAREER ORIENTED COURSE

The department received a sum of Rs.7,00,000 from UGC to offer a Career Oriented Course on Office Management. The department has constructed a separate commerce computer lab with 30 desktop systems of recent configuration with this fund. The certificate Course in Office Management is offered from 2009-10 onwards.

 B.COM
 a) PROGRAM OUTCOME

By successfully completing the B.Com Course, they were able to gain knowledge in the fundamentals of Commerce, Accountancy, Taxation, Banking and Auditing. They also equip with professional and entrepreneurial skill.

 b) PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME
  • The students can able to manage their business effectively by enhancing their skills like effective communication, decision making, problem solving in day to day business affairs.
  • Use knowledge and skills of accounting and finance in all areas of business operations.
  • Apply the entrepreneurial and managerial skills for effective business Management.
  • Understand the concepts, principles and rules of various laws that is applicable to business transactions.
  • Acquired practical skills to work as tax consultant, audit assistant and other financial supporting services.
 M.Com
 a) PROGRAM OUTCOME

By completing the M.com course, they were able to identify, analyze and grab the opportunities available in the areas of business. They can also apply advanced tools and techniques for solving the business problems.

 b) PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME
  • Learners will be able undertake advance research in the field of commerce and finance.
  • The students can work on team, to achieve their goals.
  • Students can occupy important positions in business, industries and related organization.
  • The students can solve the issues of social relevance with professional ethics and practices.
  • Students can equip themselves to write Competitive examinations including SET/NET.

After the completion of this course, the students will develop the necessary technical, organizational and interpersonal skills that will enhance the role as an effective member of the office team.

  • The students have learnt about the usage and working of different office machineries.
  • The learners can apply basic accounting knowledge and skill competency to prepare office accounting statements.
  • With a wide variety of hands on practical experience and creative thinking skills, the students are trained to meet the demands of today’s challenging work environment.
