The Department of Mathematics was started in the year 1994. The programme B.Sc. Mathematics with Computer Applications was started in the year 2004 with the sanctioned strength of 40. This programme offers several computer related papers along with traditional mathematics oriented subjects, thus providing a strong foundation in problem solving skills and programming skills to the students. In addition, this department handles mathematics courses for various under-graduate programmes and Post-Graduate programmes.The department offers M.Phil.(Part-time) in Mathematics.

To develop communication skills, leadership skills and interpersonal skills, guest-lectures are arranged periodically. Career guidance programmes and Personality development programmes are also arranged. The department conducts annual intra-departmental competitions Math Musings and Math Wizard to hone the intellectual talents of the students. It also brings out an annual bulletin Vasavi Alpha that contains articles written by the students. The Aptitude Training Cell trains the students in improving their problem-solving skills.
